My father wanted to start again

My father's name is Arnaud.

When he was younger, he walked the Tour du Mont-Blanc. 170 kilometres, ten days on foot. The kind of thing you're still telling people about thirty years later.

When he retired, he wanted to start again. But by then, arthritis had settled into his feet. After a few kilometres, the blisters would come. By the end of the day, he had to stop.

He tried several brands. None of them held up past 15 kilometres.

And I watched my father give up.

Discover our socks

We searched. For a long time.

One idea, over and over: find the socks that would get him walking again. And walk with him.

Blisters come down to three causes: moisture, friction between the toes, and the foot sliding inside the shoe.

I came across five-toe socks. Trail runners were using them, but none of them were really built for long-distance walking.

For more than a year, I tested prototypes. Arnaud wore them on his tracks. He told me what rubbed, where it pinched.

One morning, he came home from an 18-kilometre walk: "That's it. You can sell them."
